2013 was the year I learned how to surf. Back then, I’ve been seeing a lot of posts online about how fun it is to surf and being a curious kid, I researched for the best surf spots near Manila. I’ve learned that San Juan Surf Resort is the #1 surf school in the Philippines. I told my friend Ervin about it and he agreed on going with me. So one day, after work, we went to Cubao and looked for a bus going to La Union.
Transportation:
- There are a lot of bus lines going to La Union from Cubao, some are Partas, Genesis, Victory Liner, Farinas and more. Bus fare is around Php400 one way. Travel time is 5-6 hours.
Along Urbiztondo, you will see this signage and you’re already there. Their address is Urbiztondo, San Juan, La Union 2514.
I believe they have a new building now with different rates. To view the most updated rates, please check their website San Juan Surf Resort. You may also contact them at (+63) 917-887-5470 or email sanjuansurf@yahoo.com.ph.
This was our room. It costs Php1,800 per night with free breakfast for two. It’s located beside the Surf Shop.
Surfboards are also for sale in their shop.
My friend bought this fedora hat for me from the surf shop for Php450.
This was our view while eating their delicious food! π
Food was great! We had Filipino, breakfast and dessert. Yum!
And the very reason why we went there, to surf! If you didn’t bring a rashguard with you, you can borrow from them for free. It comes with the surfing lesson fee. Surfing lessons with local instructors would cost Php400 per hour.
The first time I went there, I was able to meet the Filipino-Australian owner and professional surfer, Luke Landrigan. He was trained in Australia and he has also earned a Surfing Australia Level 1 Certification for surf instruction, a world-class qualification that permits him to teach anywhere in the world. He was my instructor in my first ever surfing lessons. π
You’ll get this certificate after your surfing lessons with him. Although, his rate is higher than other local surf instructors but it’s worth it. He even took some videos while we were surfing. Unfortunately, the videos were corrupted when he sent it to my email. π¦
This was my second visit and enjoyed every moment of it. Surfing is really fun and always exciting! Especially when you can balance and stand up on your board. I wish to learn new tricks as well but for now, I’m good being a beginner with the longboard. π
