Last Summer, May of 2015, Kyle and I decided to go to Bicol just for the weekend. So we looked for a place and found Donsol, Sorsogon where we can see some whale sharks. We got excited and traveled to Bicol right after work.
Transportation from Manila, there are 2 options:
- By Air – You can booked via Cebu Pacific from Manila to Legazpi. One way would cost about Php1,200-1,800. Same as with Virac, go for the seat sale. It’s an hour plane ride.
- By Land – There are a lot of bus lines going to Bicol. Penafrancia, Isarog, RSL, DLTB and more. We took a bus from Cubao to Legazpi which costs Php800. That’s a 12 hour travel time. You can also take a bus going ditectly to Sorsogon.
We booked an overnight stay at Elysia Beach Resort through Agoda. Room costs Php3,200 or USD70 per night. The place was very cozy. π
Here’s their website – http://elysia-donsol.com/
You can chill almost everywhere in this resort. Kyle enjoyed it so much. π
We loved their restaurant’s desserts! π
Their swimming pool was also very inviting. Not too cold. π
Here’s the beach. There were black jellyfish in the water, so please be extra careful. Although, they said that the black jellyfish doesn’t sting.
Dinner time, we ate at Barracuda restaurant just near our resort. We were not able to take photos, but the food was simply amazing and affordable price! The owner/chef will ask you to choose from the fresh fishes/shrimps that she has and cook it right away. She was very hospitable and friendly even with my son, Kyle. I ordered the largest shrimp ever and it’s so delicious!!! Sorry no photos but I swear it was good! You can Google the restaurant for more reviews. π
The next day, we tried swimming with the whale sharks. I think we paid Php1,500 for the boat. Unlike in Oslob, Cebu, whale sharks are easy to find and they’re just juvenile; here, whale sharks are hard to find. You have to swim and chase it and it’s as big as a bus. We saw one however it was too fast so the GoPro was not able to capture it.
On the way to see the whale shark.
Kyle stayed in the boat while I chased the huge whale shark.
So, there goes our Donsol, Sorsogon weekend. I wish we had pictures of the whale shark, unfortunately, it’s really hard to capture a photo with them. Nonetheless, we enjoyed every moment there especially at Elysia Beach Resort. π
Why so yaman po? HAHAHAHAHA
